Finally, something moved in Pool D! After three rounds with all draws, French numero uno Maxime Vachier-Lagrave won his game today, defeating GM Predke.

 

Now Maxime leads his pool, and with two rounds to go, becomes the favorite to access the semifinals.

In Pool A, Shankland had the upper hand in the game vs. Etienne Bacrot, but there Frenchman defended fiercely, and the American had to settle for a draw. Andreiking and Grishuk played a quiet draw.

In Pool B, young Tabatabaei held to a draw the favorite Anish Giri; Vitiugov and Harikrishna drew.

 

Anish leads by a whole point, and with only two rounds to go, it'll be hard for the other three in Pool B to catch the Dutch GM.

In Pool C Vidit and Rapport keep the leadership, with 2.5/4. Shirov, with 1.0/4 is out of contention at this point. Fedoseev, half a point behind the leader, could still have a word on the qualification for the semis.
